But I think that Lila saw the opportunity to give her daughter a better life, and that was through Elena. That was why she talked about switching the babies before they were even born, and why she tried to be so close to Elena's family and Elena's to hers. Eventually this happens as ironically Gennaro becomes almost like a family member to Elena and her daughters, living with Elena on and off for many years. It is perhaps the opportunity that Lila fantasized for Tina, but which tragically was prevented from becoming a reality. I think that as long as Lila kept Elena close to her, which she did everything in her power to do, Lila had an "out" from the neighborhood for her daughter, so she would not need to resort to arranging for the kidnapping of Tina.
