John Thank you for this! Any recommendations for further reading?

John There are a lot of possibilities depending on what you are looking for. A good place to start is "The Four Books: The Basic Teachings of the Later Confucian Tradition" by Daniel Gardner. It is a short collection of important pieces of the text alongside analysis and explanation. If you are interested in application to modern life, I suggest “Why Be Moral” by Yong Huang. Both of these books are focused on Neo-Confucianism (philosophy schools from the last 1000 years), but are more approachable than most others. Most readers will find Yong Huang’s ideas less appealing than Puett’s, but that’s the point – these ideas are complex. People can (and do!) interpret them in different ways, just like people still argue about Aristotle. Hopefully they make a useful addition to your theoretical toolbox!
