CC You put into words exactly my dilemma with this book. Although I enjoyed the story, Egyptology and all. Much of Picoult's writing is quite beautiful. But the plane crash and that whole timeline never made sense, in a linear or nonlinear way unless there were actually two crashes, and the narrative makes it plain the two descriptions referred to the same crash. The author is playing with our minds. Annoying.

Kim I agree, Cynthia. I guess the only way to understand it is to think in terms of parallel universes, but even then it's confusing.

Luana Jacqueline, I interpreted it exactly like that too. (but still came to Goodreads to read q&a lol!!!

Diana I read it like we were made to believe it was two timelines. It is the same crash both times, but the second one is told at the right place in the story. It indicates that her story wasn't two timelines, but one timeline told out of order.

Luana Hi Diana! I also thought it could be that, but in the “first” crash, she hesitated about where to go, when asked. That doesn’t make sense if it was the same timeline as the second, as in that one she is already with Wyatt and intent on going back to tell Brian about Wyatt being the biological father of Meret.

However, this is just my interpretation, you might be right. Fun to discuss it 😊
