I'm always amazed how parents think that their kids would be shocked or couldn't handle swearing.
Teens are a group in that regard, just like adults are. Just because they don't swear in front of you, doesn't mean they don't do it when amongst themselfes.
Parents tend to dilude themselves into thinking their kids act the same in front of them than with their friends, when we adults don't do it...
Also: Controlling what your kids can read diminishes their desire to do it at all.
Or they will read it just because it is forbidden.
Thanks for the question and update both. My 13 year old just picked this book from the bookshop, and I bought it for her but was wondering the same thing. She also has T1 diabetes, and is comfortable with reading graphic violence (in fact she looks for it in books). Sex scenes not so much, but I think she can handle one non-graphic one.
