Ordelia, if you want authenticity in works of medieval England you can do no better than look at the historical works of Alfred Duggan (deceased) a respected historian and novelist. Given that social conditions from the 13th/15th century barely changed why not try and obtain a copy of his 'Growing Up in the 13th Century? Although written for young students it is a mine of social information hard to come by normally apart from extensive trawls on the internet.
