I have recommended this book to many and we have had many discussions regarding the ending. I believe that evil Verity is her true self too. I don't buy that she only wrote it for a writing exercise. I think Jeremy brought in Lowen because he wanted to show Verity that she wasn't all she thought she was and could be replaced. I don't know if he knew she could move, but maybe...
I don't think he knew she had recovered and could walk, etc.
He will also make a ton of money off the books... me he doesn't work
