I was wondering that too! They were just there waiting for her to appear each year but was she there before midnight and then returned from another time? My mind stayed blown if I thought about it too much so I just moved on to the next read.
This could be a good book for club discussion.

Because older versions of her had appeared in previous years. Her first leap was in 2015. That means in previous years, she was older. So in 2014 (and other previous years), she would have remembered that her first leap was in 2015, and then she presumably let her mom and Kenzie know so they could be better prepared.
