I agree! At the beginning of their relationship Mallory does not want a long distance relationship nor is she willing to give up her life in Nantucket to build a life with Jake elsewhere. She didn’t like city life. I think she unwilling to be put in the work a real relationship requires so this one weekend a year that is hermetically sealed and void of conflict and reality suits her.
I agree, I think Mallory didn't really have a strong desire to be married. She never had to think about it, because the man she loved couldn't marry her so it wasn't even an issue. She was happy with being a teacher. She didn't ever want to live anywhere but Nantucket. She was happy to be pregnant. She might have wanted more time with Jake but overall, this life suited her.
