what you think is the cause of the sexual development of a pedophile in Jacob strane? sexual aberration? as in Lolita, Humberts premature sexual affair with his GF, who dies at an early age, and that becomes the reason for his interest in Lolita when he sees her. what is stranes trauma or the missing thing that resulted in him being a pedophile?
I wondered that too. If there was a reason he became how he was. It’s interesting because he did seem to want to fight his urges. The only thing he mentioned about his childhood was that his mother was angry and did not like him.
Maybe he was afraid that when Vanessa became a woman, she would reject him too, like his mother did? The way his mother made him feel pro ably made him feel inferior towards women in general. With young girls he got the attention/adoration before (in his mind) they saw through him
I like that idea! It definitely explains his constant need to be in control and the power dynamic he wanted to have.
I know I am late to these comments, but I just want to add that according to psychologists who were working on this one documentary in which they tried to expose predators on social apps, most of the people who were doing these horrifying things to teenagers, weren't actualy pedophiles. Just people (mostly men) who were bored with their sex life. Very often they even had kids in the victims' age.
Maybe that was Strane's relationship with Vanessa as well. Maybe he just liked the thrill and the helpesness of young girls.
