I haven't read the Tales myself yet. Read the first four novels years ago (back in 2001, the year Tales and The Other Wind were released but I didn't know this at the time) and I need to reread the whole set but from what I know, most of the stories (all except Dragonfly, I think) aren't connected to the main story line. Some are set long before the books. Yet, Le Guin apparently recommended to read them between Tehanu and The Other Wind.
