Short answer, yes.
The answer to that question would give away the ending. Is it really a haunted house or not? I was wondering until the end.
Everyone’s being cagey because we don’t want to spoil. Just don’t expect not to feel like you’re reading a ghost story if you pick up this book.

There are indeed ghosts. But there are also ghouls, a term used to describe people in the real world doing bad things. More ghouls that ghosts.
