It isn't that the victory seems not real, but rather more that the newly uncovered information somewhat diminishes the scale and grandeur of the Barrayaran victory - it is a narrative that has, after all, stood as a central pillar of Barrayaran nationalism. Once these narratives get entrenched and start getting ever more glorified and embellished as time passes, the realization that the victory wasn't *entirely* achieved through Barrayaran heroism, grit and strategic genius gets harder and harder to swallow.
