Thank you for the well though-out answer, Eliot. I am sort of on the fence myself. As someone who creates and maintain distributed systems I'm quite pragmatic in regards to "magical" technology that will change everything. At the same time I am uncertain if we have the mental tools to truly comprehend or analyze the consequences of creating a general artificial intelligence. Time will show, I guess. :-)
