Absolutely, Kathryn, just wanted to thank you for this sharp observation that I wasn't able to articulate to myself.
what you think is the cause of the sexual development of a pedophile in Jacob strane? sexual aberration? as in Lolita, Humberts premature sexual affair with his GF, who dies at an early age, and that becomes the reason for his interest in Lolita when he sees her. what is stranes trauma or the missing thing that resulted in him being a pedophile?
EXACTLY! She could be any 14 year old girl! So therefore, beware of predators! This does not diminish the story, it makes the story real. Talk to some victims sometime.
This comment was perfect. When reading the book, I couldn't help but identify with elements of Vanessa's personality and identity - which made the book so much harder to get through because this could have easily happened to me. I think we are so preoccupied in identifying the reason's this happened to Vanessa or other young victims instead of realizing the power of manipulation on undeveloped brains.
