Do not underestimate setting goals for publishing and especially marketing. You may have written the most satisfying read of the year, but getting it to market is a lot of hard work and dedication to your book. My usual first goal on the marketing side is to draw up plans for breaking even, i.e., calculate your costs and work out your profit or royalties per book. From that you can calculate how many books you need to sell to break even. In my price bracket it is usually between 700 and 800 books just to break even and that can be a lot of books to shift.
