Nancy Oakes Discussion space for Richard Osman's We Solve Murders. Have fun, be polite and enjoy!

Judy Sheluk I read this (listened to on Audible) in Feb. 2026, Here's my 5-star review (I did not enjoy The Thursday Murder Club nearly as much)

A wicked sense of humour, great writing, inventive plot and entertaining characters -- all topped off by fabulous narration by Nicola Walker (you can hear the amusement in her voice at times). And an ab-fab ending. Loved it! Off to find more by this author and narrator.

Suzy I just finished a reread of this in audio and loved it as much the second time around! I had a smile on my face the whole time. Will read the second in the series soon and just learned they are adapting it into a tv series.

Beth I haven't read this book yet, though I'm looking forward to diving into it soon. I've read and thoroughly enjoyed the five Thursday Murder Club books that Osman wrote, so I'm expecting We Solve Murders to be just as charming and witty.

Abigail Sadly, I did not love this book. It was an easy listen. But I never connected with the characters and found I really wasn't invested in whether they lived or what came next. Definitely will not continue with the series. I really loved Thursday Murder Club, so I was disappointed to feel so meh about this.

But I am glad others seem to be enjoying it.

Annie I just picked this up from the library today.

Beth I'm well into the book now and enjoying Osman's witticisms so far. Being a mom, my favorite quote so far is, "That's all you can do for your kids, isn't it? Try to arrange the stars."

That sounds like an easy listen without the emotional pull you wanted. If the characters never clicked, a smooth read would not necessarily give you much reason to follow them into another book. It is an interesting contrast with your experience of Thursday Murder Club.

aPriL does feral sometimes I liked it! I continued with the series, too. It’s a nice mystery!

Beth I can relate to Abigail's comment, being a huge fan of the Thursday Murder Club series, especially after seeing the movie. Hellen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imre, and Ben Kingsley!! I see them when I read a book in the series now. But, I'm still enjoying the new characters in this new series, though not quite as much. What I most like is Osman's writing style of sprinkling in witty jokes to keep the reader chuckling. We all need some laughs these days.

Karin I wasn't sure if I'd like this, since I enjoy the Thursday Murder Club books, but originally gave it 4+ stars so have just adjusted it to 4.25. I'm currently reading the second one in this series.

I'm glad they aren't too similar to the Thursday Murder Club series.

Beth Well, I finished the book. I gave it 4 stars, mainly for the giggles I got. Here's the review I posted: "I really enjoy the Thursday Murder Club series that Osman writes. I'm still enjoying Osman's witty writing in the first book of this series. And, he has well developed the three main characters (detectives) who will carry this series, but I felt that the development of the "bad guys" in this book was not as well done. Sometimes they were just too unbelievably nice for their characterization before those actions. And having one of the group of three detectives be extremely rich makes things much easier for them, greasing the skids just a little too conveniently for my tastes. It's still a fun read, recommended for the beach or a plane flight."
