I appreciate you acknowledging that the author has never visited Albania and that this book shouldn't be treated as a definitive guide to Albanian culture. As an Albanian myself, that is one of my biggest issues with it. I also found the portrayal of the burrnesha deeply troubling. This is a centuries-old tradition rooted in family honour, land, inheritance and the Kanun, and I feel that reducing it to a queer narrative overlooks so much of its cultural and historical context. It is particularly disheartening to see this book receive so much international acclaim when the voices of the people whose culture is being portrayed are often overlooked.
