Haha, thanks! Should be a good time, I hope! ;)

Thanks for the rec, Callie! That one's on my list if I end up liking this one. :)
Ohhh.... don't put it on a pedestal, or it will certainly fall down. You have a wonderfully high standard, I feel.
It's not quite a Tana French. Maybe a distant cusin. I hope you enjoy.

Hahaha! 😅 I will try to keep the standards at a more reasonable level for this book. Thanks for the warning, Paul!
Can't wait to hear your verdict on this one. I have TRIED to love Freida's books, but after two, I've given up.

Thanks, Amy! Opinions are quite divided on her books lol. 😅
Stellar review, Yun. Could that unsatisfied feeling have to do with the author turning it into a series?
definitely agree yun! you should check out some of her other books- I thought "the boyfriend" was better and less predictable! her work is very fun
thanks for this review! this series flies off the shelves at the library where I work but has gotten some so-so reviews so I was curious... glad your 2 year old liked it! 😊
Didn't you make a case for simple writing by describing the scene of reading it to a 2 year old? Did I misunderstand this particular part of your review. Thanks for your very thorough review.
I can appreciate it when a story like this doesn't always take itself seriously, to put some fun in it. Especially in thrillers where the twists can be a bit unbelievable. Good review, Yun.
LOL...I am having my husband read this because it's coming out as a movie this year. He also enjoys crazy plot-twists and isn't what I'd call a "literature" lover. He loves action. Great review.
Jayme wrote: "This one didn’t work for me, but I am glad you found it entertaining enough! Terrific review!"
Thanks, Jayme! I think my enjoyment was only a little more than yours lol. :)
Maureen wrote: "Excellent review Yun, at least you found this one decently entertaining."
Thanks, Maureen!

Thanks, Jen! I can't imagine this would be for you. :)
Darla wrote: "Stellar review, Yun. Could that unsatisfied feeling have to do with the author turning it into a series?"
Thanks, Darla! This book does wrap everything up, so I can't complain there. :)

Thanks, Sidney! Glad to know you found some of her other ones to be better. I'll definitely check out more from her in the future. :)

Thanks, Felicia! Same with my library. I had to wait a few months before I got to the front of the line. Haha yeah, I think he would give it 5 stars! ;)

Thanks, Sherry! I'm not sure I understand your question? I just meant that my 2 year old enjoys it and understands almost all of it, and he mostly reads Maisy and Llama Llama.
Thibault wrote: "I can appreciate it when a story like this doesn't always take itself seriously, to put some fun in it. Especially in thrillers where the twists can be a bit unbelievable. Good review, Yun."
Thanks, Thibault! Yes for sure. This book definitely didn't take itself too seriously and the reader shouldn't either. :)

Thanks, Barbara! While I was reading some passages from the book to my 2 year old (who was riveted), my husband also overheard and was interested. So there you go! :)
A fair and honest review, Yun. You really captured the reading experience and the writing. Definitely binge worthy, but yes, simple. Well put.
This was a 2 star read for me but now that I know her books are popcorn reads I'm better prepared when I crack the cover on a new release lol.

Not a particular book per se, just elements of it. For example: (view spoiler)

Haha yes, that is essential knowledge. I had already adjusted my expectations before going in lol.
Amy wrote: "Yes! I also gave it a 3. Same page (book pun intended)."
Haha! Took me a sec, but thanks for the laugh!
Sorry it was a disappointment, but thanks for staring your thoughts so I won't be disappointed, as well. That's too bad, because I thought one I read seemed creative (too me, anyway.)
Excellent and fair review, Yun. I have been curious about Freida's works for quite some time, but have never picked one up. I did hear that this particular novel is being made into a movie. So, that piqued my interest. I guess the simplicity of the writing is part of what gives the author such mass appeal? Here's hoping your next thriller is a bit more nuanced and engaging.
I loved the part about your son; it was adorable! I’m sorry to hear that the book didn’t dazzle you. Thank you for sharing this awesome review! xoxo

Thanks, Tracy! I feel like I'm always a bit harsh with thrillers, so don't let me discourage you. I see tons of love for this book, and chances are good you'll enjoy it too!

Thanks, Julie! I feel like the term "popcorn thriller" was invented for this book haha. I don't think I'll see the movie, having gone through this story once already. ;)

Thanks, PP! Haha, it did dazzle my son though. I'm sure he would give it 5 stars. ;)
Ha! My kids were both non readers (for pleasure) so this would never have happened for me! This is on one of my to-read lists, but I don't know if I will ever get to it.
