It worked for me.I think this change could end up hurting us. When I clicked to give a book a rating of 4 stars today, only a partial amount of the star was selected. Good thing I noticed or I would've given that book 3 1/4 star rating instead of 4 stars.
If readers don't realize this, then we authors are going to get a lower (or higher) rating than the reader intended.
Just something to be aware of...

Oof. Yeah, I could see everyone's ratings going down across the board just due to user error. I could definitely see myself making this mistake CONSTANTLY because I have to use a special computer screen due to eyestrain/light sensitivity stuff and sometimes the stars don't even fill in for me. I just have to make sure I'm clicking in the right star area, but if I can't tell if I'm getting all the way to 5 stars, then I may think I'm giving someone's book 5 stars and shorting them. UGH. I always post the numeric star rating at the end of my reviews but I could definitely see this being a mess.
I still can't get it to work. What page are you all on when you click to give the rating and are seeing the fractions?
Has anyone gone back to try to change the stars for a book they've already rated to adjust the rating to what they truly gave?
Also, what browser are you all using? (Maybe that's my issue.)
I use a desktop computer with Chrome. I go to the book page and start my review from there. I have indeed tried going back in to see if I could change an old rating (I didn't, but just to verify something I read a little while ago on Threads) and it would let you adjust it.
Some people on Threads are concerned (rightfully) because the new change now allows users to assign ratings BELOW 1-star. You cannot assign ratings above 5-star, but you can give a book a 0.25 rather than just a 1-star and marginalized authors, who tend to get review bombed even more than the average person, are concerned this change is going to tank their ratings.
I used the contact form to mention to Goodreads that while the new ratings change was positive in that quarter and half star ratings allow for more specificity, every other site on the internet rates from 1-5 and it does not make sense for Goodreads to go down to 0.25. Only trolls are going to use that rating. Amazon, Yelp, Google, Audible... all of these places use a 1-5 scale. Why would Goodreads not be consistent with Amazon and use a 1-5 scale?
I did experiment and rated a book, and it does show numeric values while you are putting the stars in. So that part is easy to see, at least.

I thought for a moment you meant readers could rate -1.

I'm using Edge.

(I'm unable to get it to work for me - so far.)
