I will be the first one to tell you that AI is over my head! I started writing 53 years ago and will never rely on a computer programme (or whatever it is) to write my stories or letters. Even if it takes me months to finish, it will be written by me. I don't dislike AI per se, but I just don't understand it and have no clue how to use it!
I personally love creating, and if I hand any that to a computer, then I don't get to do that part. And I like all the parts. Even when I hate them.
I will not touch it. I believe that fiction writing is a bit of a soul searching experience, and utilizing GenAI to do it defeats that purpose. Also, I’m livid over the fact that one of my books can be found on the LibGen pirated books site that Anthropic used to train its models. Anthropic used author works without consent so that they could entice wannabe writers who don’t want to put in the effort to buy their product to do the work for them. They claim their collection of copyrighted material for training falls under fair use, and we all know that’s BS.
I use it to create free easter egg material - educational pieces on the real-world research behind my topics, autobiographical information (I'm not the type of person who likes to write/talk about myself - and as cautionary evidence re: the law of accelerating returns.

Rogue AI: The exciting new dystopian sci-fi thriller from Mark Eluzai
Here in Authors/Readers I've read threads where an AI written post is replied to with a difference AI written comment, and then that AI comment is replied to by another AI comment. Are we even still here?
AI can definitely write a lot faster than we can, but I'm not sure what we gain, except novelty, from reading a thread which is mainly AIs talking to themselves?
What does it mean when someone decides they want to reply to your discussion or comment, but not enough that they want to spend the time or energy typing it themselves? Or might it be, that even writers are now becoming insecure about writing words, and need to outsource that to someone or something more articulate or reliable than themselves?
There's an honouring of someone when you hand write them a letter. It's taken me a long time to realise that. That honouring comes from the time and cost involved. I work with a guy who sends me long, positive emails with not much meaning - they're written by AI. It's quicker for him to get an AI to respond to me than to do it himself. But personally, these days, I think I'd prefer one line from him - badly spelt - to that oh-so-familiar 4-5 overly positive paragraphs about not very much.
Any other humans still out there? How are you experiencing this in your life?
