PamG Here is my 4.16 rounded to 4 stars review of On the Run by Kerry J. Donovan:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Action Thriller
Book 1 in the Ryan Kaine series
Fast-paced, compelling protagonist dilemma, authentic feeling operations, multiple view-points
Graphic violence / torture
Abrupt sequel hook leaving a partial cliffhanger ending
Would have liked a little more character development
On the Run (Ryan Kaine #1) by Kerry J. Donovan

Your note about the partial cliffhanger is the part that would decide whether book one worked for me. Did Kaine’s central dilemma reach a satisfying pause even though the larger arc stayed open, or did the ending withhold too much of its own payoff?

message 5: by PamG (new)

PamG The partial cliffhanger seems to run through the series. Now that I know what to expect about that, I can enjoy the central dilemma in each book knowing that that one aspect isn't going to be resolved anytime soon.

Knowing that the unresolved thread is a series feature probably changes the contract with the reader. Does each book still give Kaine a complete enough immediate problem to make the ongoing cliffhanger feel like momentum rather than unfinished business?

Yes.

Sean Peters (A Good Thriller) Kerry's books get stronger and stronger, especially as you get to know the characters.

The stories get stronger, love the touch of humour, and the great action.

Other News
Thank you all for your patience while I've been re-editing and sprucing up all the books in my back catalogue ready for all the audio and translations that my publisher has created so far. Your support means everything.

Now for the great news. I've just written "the end" on the 15th Ryan Kaine book! That's right, it's already in my editor's queue right now. The not-so-great news is, it's not the first book off the rank, so I have no information on when it will be released... yet. Stick around to be the first to know and read a short excerpt!

And that's it for now. Stay safe, keep reading, and thank you for being a Friend.

Cheers,
Kerry
