Thanks for your review, Meike--your review definitely put this novel at the top of my list of what to read next.

I didn’t write about his aspect in my review, but I was so impressed with the novel on a technical level, too. Rowbottom writes about bodies and power with a lot of nuance. Her scenes have real bodies in them, colliding in uncomfortable and disturbing and graphic ways, yet the scenes never feel exploitative or gratuitous. That is so hard to do well. Really great!
