My book, Twelve Bells to Freedom: The Suhajda Story, is a narrative non-fiction, Memoir account based directly on original cassette recordings left by my mother, Iren Suhajda. It covers the harrowing realities of life during WWII, the subsequent post-war Russian occupation of Hungary (1945–1956), and the ultimate, life-altering family decision to escape to freedom on November 20, 1956. My brothers and I walked in our Parents footsteps through the forest of Sopron as children, not making a sound for two hours, through landmine field and evading Russian border guards to Austria and freedom.
