McLeod Lewis I see this entire group is fairly dormant, as is the other book covers group I found. But I'll give this a try, see if we can get seom discussion going. My general comment is, for romance covers (and romance novels), there are tried and true rules of the game - certain plot patterns, character types, etc. For covers, it seems that flowery, feminine, is the way to go. And usually showing the lovers.

Welp, I have a new book that is nominally a romance type of story, but also coming-of-age, suspense, and kind of a nostalgia vibe as well. I have chosen an outdoor lake scene as my cover. I notice that on the one website where you can get reviews including a thumbs up or down on covers, I've gotten mostly thumbs down. But there is no way to know why.

So I come here, hoping for someone to tell me why this is a bad cover for a romance novel. Is it just that it doesnt' fit the stereotype, or is it simply not a good cover, period? Or...? Here is the link:

Oh, and I'm also very interested in reviews of the book itself!

An Eventful Summer: My Romantic (and other) Adventures at Camp Elwan, Vermont

Thanks!
