Fear of AI > Likes and Comments

ne of the reasons many writers I talked to fear AI is they think it will replace them as a writer. This can happen, but only it the writer allows it to happen. If the writer feeds an AI app a story or article idea and instructs the AI to write the story or article, the AI will do just that. If the writer accepts the AI output and publishes it as his (or her) original work, then indeed the AI has replaced the writer.
I often ask my AI app to write an article or a description. Once I get the output, I consider it to be a first draft that requires heavy editing and revision before it is ready to be used. And I always indicate that I used AI to help me write the piece.
What are your thoughts on this topic?

I'm a big believer in using AI as a tool with my writing. It's helped me with plotting, with editing, even with ideas for creating book covers. I'm an indi-published author and I'm also a book cover designer. I've used Sudowrite and ChatGPT, also Midjourney and Co-Pilot for image creation. When I publish with KDP, I'm always asked if I use AI. I'm always honest. What I feel is the difference is the amount of editing a writer does with the writing that AI suggests. With me it always extensive.

Good ideas, Barbara. I find an AI assistant can help me through all 5 phase of producing a book: planning, writing, publishing, marketing and business.. In summary, AI is really a great assistant (if used correctly)

100 percent agree.

What I fear isn't that a model can write a draft. It's that fluent text starts to feel like a finished judgment. Hank's point lands for me: the handoff is the risk, not the tool. If nobody still owns the no, the writer has already left the room. Heavy editing and saying you used help are part of staying in the room. Who keeps a doubt on a slow Tuesday still matters more than how fast the first draft arrives.
