E.A. Mona Sami,

I cannot grasp your rating system. You often give high praise but low star counts. Here, you have nothing but high praise for Grisham's characters, his plot, and the heartbreaking case he chose. You say the novel was everything you'd hoped for and impossible to put down. You rave that it is "brilliantly written" and an "outstanding legal thriller from one of the masters of the genre." How, then, could you possibly rate it as 3 stars? Based on your review, it must receive 4 or 5 stars, not 3! I have seen this tendency in your appraisals before, and I don't understand it.

Mona Sami Thank you for pointing this out. In this particular instance, the three-star rating was genuinely an error, as the wording of my review clearly shows, and I have now corrected it.

More generally, my ratings reflect my overall experience of a book. I consider not only the plot and quality of the writing, but also originality, character development, pacing, emotional impact, the ending and how memorable the book is overall. Some of my reviews also date back several years, and my tastes and expectations have naturally evolved over time. They are simply honest reflections of how I experienced each book when I read it.

I appreciate you bringing this particular mistake to my attention.
