Hey! I'm trying to expand my bookshelf and delve into some new stories, so I thought I'd ask what everyone's favourites are!

In the name of the wind - Patrick rothfus is going to be my favourite of all times. After that there’s six of crows.

I agree with the other commenter. Six of Crows is an excellent book. Definitely one of the better fantasy books written in recent years. I also really like the Folk of the Air series by Holly Black. If you're more into sci-fi/dystopian/thriller, I'd recommend Unwind by Neal Shusterman or Ready Player One by Earnest Cline!

Divergent, Six of Crows, Hunger games, powerless, Once upon a broken heart, and Shatter me are just a few good ones!

I definitely think the naturals and one of us is lying I not only personally love these books and series’s but they are just good YA mystery thriller books in general and with that in mind they are perfect for any reader looking for a good well written mystery thriller book the plot lines are great and easy to read and understand for a YA reader.

I’ve enjoyed Kristin Dwyer’s books.

Divine Rivals and We were liars are among my favorite YA books.

I love anything by Tamora Pierce!

I would have to recommend a few of my favorite romance/dark romance/forced romance books I have been reading since I was around 13~14 years old.

1) Still Missing by Chevy Stevens
Still Missing is a psychological thriller by Chevy Stevens about realtor Annie O'Sullivan, who is abducted from an open house and held captive for a year in a remote cabin by a man she calls "the Freak". The story is told through sessions with her psychiatrist, alternating between her captivity and her struggle to rebuild her life after escaping, while police investigate her captor's identity. The novel explores themes of trauma, survival, and the aftermath of abduction, becoming a bestseller and winning the International Thriller Award for Best First Novel.

2) Haunting Adeline by H.D Carlton
Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton is the first book in the "Cat and Mouse Duet," a dark romance novel about an author, Adeline Reilly, who inherits her grandmother's mansion and finds herself stalked by a mysterious man, Zade Meadows, who is connected to her family's dark past and a human trafficking ring. The story follows Adeline as she uncovers her great-grandmother's journals, which detail a similar haunting, and becomes entangled in a twisted, spicy romance with her stalker, leading to a dangerous fight for survival.

The book explores themes of sports, mental health (specifically a diver's "twisties"), and romance, featuring a "forbidden" relationship between the two Stanford student-athletes. It's known for being both sexy and emotionally deep, with a focus on the characters' personal struggles and their intense connection.

5) Along for the Ride by Lauren Biel
Along for the Ride by Lauren Biel is a dark, standalone MFM (male/male/female) romance about a woman on the run who gets picked up by two dangerous hitman brothers, Gentry and Karson, leading to a chaotic road trip filled with violence, animosity, and an unconventional triad relationship. The book is part of the "Ride or Die Romances" series and features extreme content, including murder, abuse, and abduction, with a focus on themes like escaping the past and finding light in darkness.

I apologize for this extremely long comment, but I thought that if you've never heard of these books, I could tell you the gist of them, at the very least. I have read all of them, up to #5. I am currently coming close to the very last chapter of that book.

I still think The Hunger Games deserves a place near the top for YA fantasy/dystopian. Six of Crows was fantastic as well. I also really loved Eragon when I was younger, probably one of the books that pulled me deeper into dragons and fantasy worlds in the first place 😅

I love anything by Chloe Walsh, boys of Tommen is my favourite.
they way she writes the characters in the book make me feel like I am apart of their lives. watching every heart breaking moment unfold

There is a great trilogy, The Baseball Players, with a sassy female protagonist, dogs who help save the game of baseball, and who help solve murders and stop corruption. They are all on Amazon Tamara Ann Sparby.

I got hooked by a post from tiktok and ended up picking Safrine series... It has two books Quench the Thirst and Taste the Ash. OMG, I thought I'll just give a first book a chance, since it was popping frequently in my feed, trust me I am literally waiting for third, as these books leave you annoying with the cliffhanger like uhhh.. what now

I personally really loved the folk of the air. Its well written, a poitical fantasy(dont confuse it with romantasy, romance is just a subplot) and i really loved the characters. Another is once upon a broken heart, i read that a while ago, liked it alot. the shatter me series is also pretty good imo, it became really good after the second book. The inheritance games series has a special place in my heart its one of the first books i read and its so good! sort of like found family. i fell in love with the characters, the plot twists are amazing imo. i love jlb so the naturals as well. its also realllyy good. Thats it for now i think

Northern lights and the his dark materials series is incredible, and tbh I'm still destroyed be the end of the amber spyglass.
The Six of crows duology is also a really good read, I kind of devoured the entire series in a week lol.

I loved Six of Crows, The Mortal Instruments, Hunger Games, Shadow & Bone, All of the Percy Jackson books, His Dark Materials, and The Magisterium Series, The Harry Potters, The Infernal Devices, The Lost Hours Series, Fairy Tale (Stephen King), The Institute (Stephen King).

I'm sure there are more but those are the ones that come to mind.

Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick if you want something real, relatable and heartbreaking.

Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmidt if you want something shorter, milder, but still sad and will grip your heart.

Late to this thread but had to chime in! Loved seeing Six of Crows and The Folk of the Air get so much love — both are excellent. I’d also recommend The Cruel Prince if you haven’t read it yet (it pairs perfectly with Folk of the Air), and Legendborn by Tracy Deonn for a really fresh take on Arthurian legend mixed with contemporary issues. Seconding The Inheritance Games too — that found-family plus nonstop plot twists combo is addictive. Adding a few more to my TBR from this thread! My own brand mcdomenuusa(.com can be used to explore prices of mcdonalds while reading books.

May I jump in?. If you like Arthurian legend mixed with humor, try this old chestnut: Mark Twain’s “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.”

I just finished Protector, the first book in the Susa Chronicles by Megan Schaulis. I liked it so much I am now reading book two so I think it could be heading for the favourite category! Just for anyone thinking of checking it out it does have some Christian allegorical elements in it, so if that's not your thing, maybe it's not for you. My review is here if you want to read more:
