Thanks. I'll pass on this series, but I added the Maine Clambake and Hayley Powell books to my Kindle list. Both are KU (with a many in the series)!
Oh excellent. The other one is Lea wait who has a mystery series set in Maine too.
I eventually gave up on this series. It was definitely a bit darker than what I look for in a cozy and I had a hard time liking most of the characters which is another issue for me. As for the non-PC stuff, it balances out more as the series proceeds, and THEN, it felt almost like the author was trying to make up for the early books by swinging completely the opposite direction. Regardless of aligning with my own value system, which I don't expect, it seldom felt balanced to me, but more than that, I just don't want to my reading for fun to be politicized in ANY direction. If I wanted political fiction, that's what I would pick up, but it's not what I enjoy AND it's not what I want in a cozy. If felt almost soap-boxy and I don't like to be preached at even when I agree! I will be curious to see if you end up sticking with it or abandoning it as well.
Hi Dawn. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I’m halfway thru now and in what I guess is the stronger part, the more balanced stuff. Definitely darker. I agree on the politics stuff. Will keep reading more until it goes haywire again! Thx.
Wow, great review! I’m so compelled to read it. Truly. Reviews are so helpful. Trying to decide if I should read these in chronological order is the thing. I’m kind of scattered in this series.
Yes. Definitely in order. Lots of side stories where her kids age twenty years. Glad you liked it. Thank you!
Yes, another review said the others weren’t like that. I always like to have a cozy series going, a break from the heavier stuff and I love Maine!
Definitely worth continuing. Barbara Ross has some good ones set in Maine too.
Totally agree it did NOT give cozy vibes. Hoping it's because it was written back in 1994. I will keep reading (listening) and give the more recent books a try.
I had to stop reading this due to these things. It was not what I expected at all and the descriptions were too much. I prefer lighthearted and cozy.
Thankfully they got a lot better. So sorry I missed your replies, Jenna and Kristinia.
