I've read I-III, so this is encouraging!
Ken, I hope you enjoy it! Based on other reviews, IV seems tied for favorite and least favorite.
Ok, so it's sounding like the alternate universe is the actual universe.
It's starting to sound like sci-fi for those who don't like the genre.

You don't prefer gentle coaxing, or guidance? But I think being reminded of our foolishness is a good thing.
I once thought I would certainly read this series, but the more I hear about it, the less convinced I become. Your review makes its purpose clearer, especially why the cast keeps expanding, but I’m beginning to think I admire the idea more than I would enjoy the actual reading.

Pia, This book series is so odd and so unusual that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I think I saw someone describe it as "boring and mesmerizing." I do, however, want to confess that I have a counterproductive tendency to be too utilitarian as a reader. I tend to treat everything like it has a purpose, as if every piece of literature were a mystery waiting to be solved. So I think my own reading of this series might be far more instrumental than it deserves.
