Well written, but if I have to hear "oh Jamie" ever again it may be too soon. :)

It is even wordier than I remembered.
Hard agree. I enjoyed the show much more than the book, and the first season was great. Also enjoyed the one in France with the gorgeous clothes.
Many times, I have read comments like "Ughhh, another female character clearly written by a man." Your cringeworthy sex-talk excerpt above sounds like the exact opposite. I have no idea what other men say during sex, but my sincere guess is it's nothing like this.
O Nataliya
I've been on the fence about this one but your nuanced review has given me the nudge I needed not to bother.
I liked the first season of the show, but not enough to go on watching. The book does sound wordy... Thank you for this great review, Nataliya 🫶
"I decided to read the book after binging the entire first season in a weekend, and slowly - eventually - got through 4 more of them ahead of each show season until the overdetailed sluggishness of book 5"
This sounds very similar to my experience, with the difference that I never managed to get past ep 6 of season 1. But I've LOVE LOVE LOVED the visuals of ep 1 and am willing to rewatch it time and time again.
I'm even hoping I'll get to visit the village of Falkland (the one with the Obelisk) and maybe even the Callanish Stones? Yes, I like to dream big, given that I don't drive, yet still want to visit remote Scottish sights. 😅
