Excellent review Sara.
Thanks, Diane. I just came back from reading yours. O'Farrell is such a marvelous writer. I will be thinking about this one for a while.
Love your review Sara! I don’t think I’ve read this author before but I have a copy of this and very much look forward to reading it!

Oh, Lindsay, you are about to discover a great writer! She is very diverse. I hope you love this one and it is just one of many.

Thanks, Chris. I was very excited when she announced this and I was not disappointed.
A wonderfully crafted review, Sara! Great insight too.
"I could not help thinking how my own land has changed in just my short lifetime. How the rural farms of my youth are now paved over with concrete and how little of my father’s world is still evident in my own. Does the land eventually win? Do the simple people, those closest to it, prevail? In many ways, this book seems to say yes it does and they can, but there is a price and the price is high and often what is lost is never regained."
Such a profound review, Sara! So much to think about, and I have to admit part of me is rooting for the land to win. I definitely won't miss this one.

I was a little worried because a few people had said it wasn't her best, but it was not a let-down for me. I don't think it will be for you either.

I hope you can. I got to this one pretty quickly just because I wait for her to write something and miss her when I am "all caught up."

Thank you, Kevin. I love a book that raises questions in me, and O'Farrell is very good at that.

I am always rooting for the land! I wonder sometimes if we haven't given up the best of everything for the sake of things that are utterly worthless. Can't wait to know what you think of this.

She is, Jen. I hope she is able to keep turning out these meaningful and enjoyable books. I have loved them all, so far.
Sara, as always your eloquent reviews perfectly convey the heart of the story. I’m in awe of What Maggie O’Farrell has done here.
You are so right about the connections . Now we wait and hope for another !
