I think it's just these books. I have to take my time with them too, and I can never be entirely sure if I'm grasping it all or if I've missed an important detail. But I think that might be part of their appeal. I want to know what's going on so I just keep reading :)
Good luck to yous, Im' kinda glad I bailed after book 1 now :) Phew sounds like a right commitment!

That's often my problem too, and the only thing that kept me going through the last books of ASoIaF... If I could read that I can totally read this!

But its totally worth it Andy!
Midway through book 6 and while it's still pretty epic and awesome, sometimes I get the feeling Erikson just tries to be convoluted for the sake of being convoluted at this point. 6 books in shouldn't still have such deep confusion in large portions of scenes

That's not what I wanted to hear :) I was hoping somewhere along the way (sooner rather than later) more things would start to fall into place and I wouldn't have to work so hard to keep up...lol

I've already resigned myself to the fact that a reread will be needed to fully enjoy the series, but I figure I've got quite a few reading years in me so I'm hopeful!
Great review, Amanda :)))) I had a strange issue with DG, it was stronger in plot, but I lacked some back stories for some characters :)

I wonder if we'll ever get back stories on everyone, Steven Erikson likes to make things difficult for us it seems.

Fantastic series and if you add the rest of the books which fulfil the story they round up to 20 books in total. Those others from this same world are also really good and I am slowly taking my time through them trying to saviour every tiny detail 😀 Really, really recommend them.
