Nirkatze Is anyone else reading this? I started today... it's reminding me a bit of Pinocchio...

message 4: by Narilka (new)

Narilka I have it and had held off since I was overbooked and you were dealing with life :) I can switch over. I had gone back to the Mercedes Lackey book I had paused.

message 5: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze I don't mind rescheduling entire, if it's just us two chickens. I'm about 50% through the audiobook, but kind of want to rewind back to 25% anyway...

message 6: by Narilka (new)

Narilka That sounds good to me. When would work better for you?

message 7: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze Want to try picking up again in July? None of the other books are scheduled yet, so we don't have to reshuffle anything.

message 8: by Narilka (new)

Narilka I like July. Same date? July 17?

message 9: by Janny (new)

Janny This is a superb series, one of my favorites, takes a bit of time to wind up, but when it does, it is incredible.

Wish I had time for a re-read with you all.

message 10: by Narilka (new)

Narilka Hi Janny! What a pleasure it is for you to stop by :) Would us delaying a bit longer give you some time to join us?

Ditto that!

Not sure - I have a pile of ARCs and three buddy reads going for booktube channels, it just would not fit on top of the writing day, however, I have a very clear memory for these books and I may pop in to comment. Don't count me out!

message 13: by Narilka (new)

Narilka I'll wait a couple days until requesting the mods update the thread. Let us know if something changes and you have some wiggle room :) Otherwise I'll push to July.

message 14: by Narilka (new)

Narilka I put in the request to move this BR to July 17th.

message 15: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze Okiedokie.

message 16: by Narilka (new)

Narilka Starting today :D

message 17: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze I picked this back up again, this time on eye instead of audio, and am enjoying it. Through Chapter 7 now. (view spoiler)

message 18: by Narilka (new)

Narilka Also through ch 7. This is quite the slow burn. I find myself enjoying something different. (view spoiler)

message 19: by Narilka (new)

Narilka While I didn't get those specific vibes myself I totally see it now that you mention it. Forgot that in my previous post :)

message 20: by Narilka (new)

Narilka Through Ch 9 (view spoiler)

message 21: by Narilka (last edited Jul 24, 2026 11:38AM) (new)

Narilka Through Ch 15 (view spoiler)

message 22: by Janny (new)

Janny This series is one of my favorites. Wait until you see how it develops!

An exploration of human nature's hypocrisies and complexities from the POV of a total innocent - brilliant and unique. I wish this series had more readership, it deserves far more love and a solid placement in the genre.

message 23: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze Glad you are popping in, Wurts-sensei!

I agree and am frustrate..."

I had a half-written comment on Chapter 7 & 9 and then accidentally clicked the evil x in the corner of the browser... every time I do something like this, I hit myself over the head for not getting that addon Iain keeps mentioning, that saves comment drafts...

re: Chapter 7--(view spoiler)

re: Chapter 9 (view spoiler)

Through Chapter 12 now--you passed me! :) (view spoiler)

Going to break for a day or two 'cuz I have to read Heated Rivalry by Sunday...

message 25: by Narilka (new)

Narilka I'm actually ahead! Thanks for that lol

Through Ch 20 (view spoiler)

message 26: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze Actually read Heated Rivalry in about three hours and now am back and working on catching up! I need to hit your benchmarks so I can open those spoiler tags. :)

Through Chapter 15--(view spoiler)

message 27: by Narilka (new)

Narilka Every time I see Sihhe in the text my brain tries to convert it to Sidhe hah (view spoiler)

Re Ch 15, though not a direct book spoiler. (view spoiler)

message 28: by Narilka (new)

Narilka I'm part way through Ch 26. It's a long one. (view spoiler)

message 29: by Nirkatze (last edited Jul 29, 2026 12:00AM) (new)

Nirkatze Hah, me too with Sihhe--first time I had to check my physical copy to make sure it wasn't a typo in the ebook. I was also thinking that textually (view spoiler)

I hit chapter 20! Though when I opened your spoiler--I think that must be chapter 21! Anyway, through Chapter 20--(view spoiler)

I was going to go to sleep now, but not after a peek at that spoiler... onwards!

I think you're right about the cultural bit. (view spoiler)

message 31: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze Hm. And now I read Chapter 21, and I'm wondering if our chapters are misaligned... (view spoiler)

message 32: by Narilka (new)

Narilka Maybe? I'm reading on Kindle and they can have mistakes from time to time. It's also possible I didn't note the chapter properly.

Yeah (view spoiler)

message 33: by Narilka (last edited Jul 31, 2026 12:42PM) (new)

Narilka I am on page 609 which my kindle says is in Ch 29. I'm getting book fatigue and just want it to be done. (view spoiler)

message 34: by Nirkatze (last edited Jul 31, 2026 10:01PM) (new)

Nirkatze You're so close! You can do it! I'm still moving pretty slowly--in Chapter 24 and trying to get to 26 and see if they match... I haven't had much time for eye-reading lately.

Let me know if you're interested in reading more of the series. I am, but also am willing to take it slow. Finally got to the quest part--(view spoiler)

message 35: by Narilka (new)

Narilka I finished. There were some surprises I wasn't expecting. (view spoiler)

3.5 stars that I will round down to 3 here. I am interesting in what happens next for Tristen though I'd like to wait until December to pick the series back up again if you're ok with it. Then do one a month like normal.

message 36: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze I don't mind waiting until December. I'll put in a request, if that's ok, to hold the place.

I just hit Chapter 26 and it is indeed a chonker, so maybe misaligned chapters were just up to there. I'm flying through the chapter though--a lot of interesting developments. I'm curious how much deeper the story and the secrets will go. (view spoiler)

Through Chapter 29--I think I'm enjoying the book more than you did, but also have less and less time to eye read lately. Though this week I'll hopefully find more time. (view spoiler)

message 37: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze Finished this weekend! I also (view spoiler)
