Yes, but at least there's usually an actual translator to blame!
Sounds like quite a difference from Conrad's usual style - I've always thought that last page of Heart of Darkness is one of the most sublime examples of prose I know.
Well, yes, which is why I was so disappointed here. Perhaps the fact that he wrote it during some kind of psychotic episode has something to do with it. Although others on my friends list seem to have liked it a lot more than I did.
