Yes. I also get the feeling that religious people are happier than I am.
I had a dream a while back where I was alone within a 19th century mansion with some odd, 'M.C. Escher,' geometry going on with the stairs. In the main room, a massive ornate mirror dominated a wall without reflecting me.
A telekinetic force as inexorable as gravity took hold of me and pulled me toward the mirror, and I was filled with terror - absolutely horror struck.
I had to pull away from the mirror and I tried with everything I had to resist the mirror's pull, and yet ... step by step ... I came closer...
I screamed, "No! No! No!" with every step.
Then I woke up.
I sat up, threw back the sheets and paced the house until I calmed down.
I'm not joking. This really happened.
I've had some fearful moments in my life. I don't like heights or tight, closed in spaces, and I've had my share of worries and concerns for loved ones when they are at risk, but this was of a different order altogether.
I conclude that I'm terrified of interdimensional portals opening onto a hellscape.
... or loss of agency before the unknown ...
😱😊
Diane wrote: "Deep Deep Fear Of The Sea...Hate Going Anywhere Near It🪼⛵🌊🪸🐚🧜♀️🦈"I get that.
The thought of being lost in the ocean, at night, all alone, is high on my fear list.
Climate change. Especially how our refusal to behave affects other animals who are no longer able to navigate their environment or no longer have an environment, wildfires, increased heat waves, the death of winter, melting ice sheets and glaciers, droughts, floods.
I fear being interrogated by the enemy, and being told, "If you do not answer truthfully, we will shove this giant ball of cat hair in your mouth."
Fear of zombie's and living dead. I've been writing about that more. Just can't get it out of my head XD

Generally speaking, yes, we are, but we'd love for you to join the group and share the joy.
Editing isn't always the best on Goodreads when responding to nested comments, although better than the app that doesn't allow responding at all!Mike's comment above to Roxana, who was responding to me, is about the happiness of religious people in comparison to non-believers.
Anyone want to comment?
I personally know (and have known) many happy nonbelievers, including myself. I've known nonbelievers who weren't all that happy. I also know believers who are not very happy, and believers who are. I've also known believers from belief systems other than Christianity; some were happy, some not so much. Clearly, happiness depends on more than one's belief system.

I'll comment. I don't feel connected to religion on an emotional / spiritual level or a rational / intellectual level, so I have no desire or intention of joining.
I'm anti-dogma, I refuse to blindly accept any belief or value without examining it myself. And I refuse to blame some abstract manmade construct for humanity's shittiness or to lie to myself that "God will judge them" when various human institutions fail to hold them accountable.
I have nothing against religious people as long as they don't try to push their religion onto me.
New fear: somehow at some point losing my sight. Really, any of my senses, but I feel like sight would be the worse one.

This is a game - list your current fear and move on for somebody else - explain it if you like, but just one fear at a time.
