I can see this is a fairly new and small forum at present. Hopefully it will grow and I have shared this forum with many of my other friends whom I hope will also join.

I simply wanted to introduce myself, my name is Michael and I am an American expat living and working in Copenhagen Denmark.

I am very happy to see this forum in existence on Goodreads as I have been a libertarian and avid follower of the Austrian school of economic thought for quite some time and have leaned more on the conservative side for about 25 years now. Prior to that, I was so far left it would make many of you blush!

I look forward to meeting both existing and new members here to share both ideas and book recommendations!

Further, my favourite books genres include the "classics" to economics, geopolitics, current events, philosophy, world history, archeology and science fiction just to name a few.

My latest interest has been reading libertarian-influenced writers and thinkers such as Alexander Dugin, Curtis Yarvin, James Burnham, Hans-Hermann Hoppe, Ludwig von Mises, Murray Newton Rothbard, Raymond Aron and Michael Millerman, etc.

Again thanks for the invitation and I will post when I come across any interesting information, book recommendations or reviews relevant to this forum. :-)

I’m Daph (Daphne- I like being called Daph) a newly appointed Parliamentary Assistant in Brussels and have always found reading to be the most enjoyable of all my leisure time. I shy from making friends: mostly friendships now are forged by time spent ‘out-on-the-town’ and I do like the quiet.
I'm very conservative in my ways and ideals: I hide that from those at work. I'm a nonconformist and struggle to fit in. I just smile and make non-committal replies.
I've not long been a member and would value new friends. I love reading about the world and what's going on in it.

Speaking of feeling like we need to hide our identity as conservatives, I worked at a college for 17 years which was liberal central. I had a policy of not bringing up my beliefs about religion or politics. I didn't try to force my views on anyone. But when I was asked a direct question, I always gave a truthful answer. Liberals have no problem announcing their beliefs to everyone and they often talk as if they assume everyone in the room agrees with them. I always assumed what a liberal was spouting off that the other people in the room being quiet might be conservative too. Anytime I in traffic behind a car with no bumper stickers. I think that guy is probably conservative because if I am behind a car with lots of bumper stickers, they are usually spouting left leaning beliefs.

I'm open to debate about all things and value all opinions. On the occasions I have aired views that many would see as right leaning, I've witnessed complete and angry rejection. Within the left leaning I see there is no desire to consider alternate views. Around the dining table, my family openly discuss all points, all views, without resentment. I don't feel as if I hide any right leaning views, I've just accepted there is no point in trying to enter them into discussion: such a shame we are where we are.
