Keep the Tongass roadless! I don't know how many letters I've written over the years against logging and road building in the Tongass but it's a lot. Don Snow was my father's name and he not only taught me to write letters in support of wilderness but to love the native plants and animals of the great Pacific Northwest. Here's to moss, cedar, trilliums, ferns, and the Spirit Bear!
Apologies for the delayed response my friend, I've been completely off-grid in deepest Wales [ temperate forest, albeit not quite the expanse of Tongass! ] for a week or so.
It's funny isn't it, how some certain word or terminology can sit with you for many years, yet somehow we neglect to enquire regarding its meaning or origin. It can be an oversight for missing out on greater interest or even sometimes a rabbit hole, and this very thing happened to me recently with Tongass, when I then found it to be an ancient tribal autonym: "People of the Tides."
Thank you for sharing your father's teaching, and your insightful interaction, it truly means a lot,
Blessings to you for your deep heart and good work.
