Frederick I haven't read Berta Isla, but as I enjoyed reading other Marias novels such as the triology "Your face tomorrow, I am looking forward to your thoughts about this book.

Frederick, I had the intention to read the trilogy first, that you enjoyed it adds to the wish to read it too. I embarked on this one because friends connected it to spy novels after I read Le Carré's Tinker Tailor - and so far I am enjoying every moment I am able to read a few pages, it's a superb and compelling novel..

Deea And how do you find this one? I loved Javier Marias other books and this has been on my list for too long.

Deea, this is the fifth novel of Javier Marias that I am reading, and I love it to bits....the writing is like music, with recurring phrases and leitmotivs, poetry quotes that pivot the story, which at such is also compelling, in short, I find it compulsively readable - I've already borrowed part II from the library, Tomas Nevison. After that I will definitely go for the trilogy...what is your favourite of Marias so far?

This sounds great... I think my favorite was "A Heart So White", but I also love "Tomorrow in the Battle Think of Me". I was a bit reluctant to get to this one as I remember the translation for one of Marias' books (not the two I mentioned) to be faltering.

Chris Chapman We are both on 5 Marias novels then Ilse! Not that it's a competition 😃. Haven't read this one, good to hear that you rated it highly.
