Scott Hi Lili, thank you so much for picking the book up. I want to clarify though: there is no child brothel in the story. There’s a scene Jo witnesses that she confuses with and compares to something like that at first. I don’t fault you though; it’s a sexually charged scene that can be triggering for some readers. It triggered my own wife, and led to a discussion about what we choose to manifest through art, which inspired me to write an article on the subject on my blog.

I also wrote a bit about the challenge of that scene in a recent interview with The Quill Ink. The scene is an important one to me, for Jo’s emotional development, and for the unraveling of the world and mystery of the village.

If any of this happens to inspire you to finish the book, I’d be happy to talk with you about whether it was ultimately successful! If not, no worries.
