Hi Lili, thank you so much for picking the book up. I want to clarify though: there is no child brothel in the story. There’s a scene Jo witnesses that she confuses with and compares to something like that at first. I don’t fault you though; it’s a sexually charged scene that can be triggering for some readers. It triggered my own wife, and led to a discussion about what we choose to manifest through art, which inspired me to write an article on the subject on my blog.
I also wrote a bit about the challenge of that scene in a recent interview with The Quill Ink. The scene is an important one to me, for Jo’s emotional development, and for the unraveling of the world and mystery of the village.
