I enjoyed 'Tender is The Flesh.' I haven't read 'Meat' yet but I do have it on my Kindle already. Not sure when I'll get to it but people keep saying I should read it haha!

Khara Wow. This is the first time I've seen Cows and A Serbian Film mentioned in the same breath. Yikes.

A Serbian Film - whether someone has seen it or not, carries a weight, has preconceived ideas going in that can often make up someone's mind prior to watching it (if that is a movie you want to watch).

The same can be said for COWS. Is the subject matter repulsive? Absolutely. Is there a message within that filth? Absolutely. So, in this case they can be easily linked by that idea.

Zephyr I stalled out on Cows around 60%. Not sure what this says about me as a person, but all the poop related stuff was the one thing I was struggling to get past. 2 Girls 1 Cup did not adequately prepare me lol. I do plan to finish it though. There are definitely a compelling story and well written characters if you can see beyond the gross stuff. Also agree with the comparison to A Serbian Film. It's the kind of book that's so extreme and transgressive that its reputation precedes it, and almost everybody has a strong opinion one way or the other as to whether it's art or gratuitous torture porn. Knowing my limits, I haven't actually watched it, but thankfully I have way more capacity for f'ed up imagery when I'm reading.

Just so you know, I was just saying that this is a powerful comparison that I haven't seen made before. I wasn't arguing against it at all. It actually makes a lot of sense.

Oh, no worries! And thanks for the clarification! I've had a few messages angry that I've read this book haha! So, I wanted to state why I felt that way.

That's fair. Some people can and some people can't read and stomach certain elements of books and this one definitely has a fair number of those elements!

I hear you! I'm a horror film scholar so A Serbian Film comes up in a lot of conversations as a benchmark of horror extremity. I've also heard Cows discussed in the same terms, but without the reference to A Serbian Film specifically; so, when you mentioned it something clicked and it made a lot of sense.

No judgement from me! :)

Khara So, sorry if my comment made you feel judged! It was not my intention.

Oh, no worries at all! I appreciate the commentary/discussion! :)

Jonny Ward "Have you watched 2 Girls 1 Cup? What was your response? If it was anything other than ‘what is the art behind this’ you’ll be best to pass."

This is perhaps the greatest quote from any book review ever
