Ryan Max temp was reached at the beginning of the Eocene (PETM) and I suppose it declined thereafter.

I haven't read this book, but heard of the Deccan volcanoes as a cause. Why must it always be one or the other though. There could be more than one cause, and the asteroid surely was a distinct marker for the end of the Mesozoic Era.

The author sure sounds like she has an axe to grind!
