A great story! I liked the introduction of Helene (Nell) and her backstory with Ralph Allam, Lord Warkworth. Lucinda Mallison’s role was perfect, and I look forward to seeing more of her in future books. Figuring out all the strings to who, what and why and tying them together was great; and all within a little more than a day ! And, I figured that there would be a kitten. Next up, more babies!

I really love how this book sets up a direction for the series (the next novella and novel follow right from these events). I loved writing Nell and Josef (her backstory came to me when we saw a friend of Mélanie's in scenes from Oliver Twist at the Dickens Fair). And the kitten is totally inspired (appearance, personality, and many of the things she does) by Malanie, the newest feline addition to our family. Malanie was found as a stray by San Francisco Animal Control and then we got her from the SF SPCA, so I imagine her history was similar to Rosaline's. And she is just as good as Rosaline at making herself at home in any setting.
I finished this in 2 days, really enjoyed it (other than trying to picture the pub in my head and all the rooms, don't know why my brain got hung up there). Enjoyed Nell, & the story of the rockets. Whenever I hear of the Congreve rockets I think of seeing them in an episode of Sharpe. Liked learning more of Julien's backstory.Hope to see more of Lucinda in action in the future!
Love, love the book!!! I agree it was great reading about Josef and Nell and I was quite worried about Julien. I love how the entire group pull together when something happens to one, it happens to all. This is what family(even chosen versus born into) and friends do for one another, when something happens. And I adore Lucinda's cheekiness. The girl is going to go far in spite of what anyone says. Listening at key holes - absolutely!!!

I did have a plan for the pub rooms (and pictures), but I can see it being hard to keep track of all of them. Definitely more of Lucinda in action in the future - in scenes I'm writing as we speak :-).

I loved writing Nell and Josef and definitely look forward to writing more about them - and Lucinda. Such a good point about how the group pulls together. It was really fun exploring more of Julien's backsotry!
