carol. Hmm, best book of the year so far? Quite a recommendation. Normally I'm violence-adverse (except zombies. Zombies don't count).

Monica It is bizarrely complex and engrossing. At first I had no idea what was going on. By the end I was blown away by how good it was. And I'm no fan of violence either but in context, this is a book about Jamaican gangs. Wouldn't recommend to just anyone but you are a lover of language and turn of a phrase. What was so unexpected for me was the dark humor. It isn't constant, but it sneaks on you. Also for a change of pace, though this is an extremely violent book, most of the violence is not directed towards women. in fact there are very few female characters, but the few in the book are mostly awesome. The characterizations for the most part are realistic and appropriate for the book.

Monica I confess that I went to Amazon more than once to look at the glossary of characters because there are so many and it did get confusing.

carol. Sounds fascinating! Audio is always a little harder for me to keep track of characters.

Anthony Just finished this and loved every minute of my reading experience. Which included eye reading and listening. He’s such a thrillingly inventive writer.
