And I hope you are able to enjoy it! I am a first time author, although I have many stories written down in journals from over the years. This will be my first book, however, and part of a series as we hit the World Cups in 2026 and 2027. A story of football, women, and being seen before you are ready. Set in working class Brasil, it is the story of Marina, and her path to growth and love under the floodlights — on the pitch, in her neighborhood, and in the kitchens of the women who raised her. It's a slow-burn, literary sort of love story: the quiet kind that arrives before either person quite knows what to call it, between Marina and the one rival who seems to read her more clearly than she'd like.
I tried to put the Brasil I carry with me on the page — the rain, the saints on the shelf, the small ceremonies of a family that says the most important things without saying them. I'm a little nervous sending it out into the world, but mostly grateful, and glad to be among other writers. I'd love to hear what you're all working on, too. Thank you for having me here.
