Hello everyone!
My name is Charlene T. Williams, and I am a 26-year United States Navy veteran, author, and advocate. I am so excited to join this community of readers and writers!
My debut memoir, The Sadness Beneath the Uniform: Duty, Service, and Survival: A Black Woman's Journey in the Navy and the Weight of the Anchors, was recently published and tells the story I was never supposed to tell.
For over 26 years I served in the United States Navy; rising through the ranks, crossing oceans, and carrying a weight that never appeared on any official record. This memoir is for every veteran who came home carrying more than they left with. For every Black woman who was told to fall in line and chose to stand anyway.
