As a resident of Japan, you may have some interesting views on this.

My only "visit" was a 12-hour stopover in Tokyo long ago. With no visa, I could not leave the airport.

I visited the A bomb museum in Hiroshima when I was 12. That left an impression, to put it mildly. I only recently became aware of the US military attempt to cover up the effects of radiation, which was mentioned in a book I read last year about survivors of Nagasaki. The US occupation identified one of the causes of the war as the drastic gap between rich and poor in Japan, and the concentration of wealth. They fixed this by land reform and breaking up monopolies. Japan society has benefited from those changes for more than 80 years. The US seems to have forgotten…

Interesting about the gap between rich and poor. Then history repeats, and here we are.

That bomb museum must be incredible. And you were only 12. I will look for the museum online.
