I read your review like 1/3 of the way through the book and once you see it you can’t unsee it. Zach really had a strong start, good lord the dead ex trope really halted it
Every thing you said about Zack in this review was so incredibly spot on for me!! I was silently screaming every time there was a mention of Zacks dead ex, his undying love for her (unlike Emily-sorry not sorry), or his unnecessary need to bring up every second of the goddamn book. It’s hard for me to summarize just how much I hated his character and my hatred for dead ex lover/ex lovers in general tropes. Loved your review!! #teamjoshforever
You just saved me so much time and eye-rolling. I absolutely cannot stand the dead lover trope, like it would’ve completely ruined the book for me. There’s something ab competing with the memory of someone you can never win against that’s really annoying to me.
Ahhh, I just DNF'd this and Emily hadn't even been mentioned yet. After reading your review I am EXTRA glad that I stopped reading.
I came here looking for a reason to actually finish this book, because it was driving me crazy. Now I'm definitely NOT going to continue reading it...thank you for your review. 🙌
1. Thank you for this time saving review!
2. But now I have to know what the series is that puts all five star books to shame!
Im just halve way through this book and was like why for the love of god can’t i get through this. Its not bad.
Welp this is the reason.
ugh yeah litterally so proud og her to not easily forgive them and trust them back BUT NO!!! SHE FORGIVE THEM JUST LIKE THAT I WANT MORE GROVELLING NOT SOME STUPID APOLOGY LIKE WHAT ZACK DID IS SO FUCKED UP HE LITERALLY MAKE HER BELIEVE SHE CAN'T BE LOVE LUKE ALSO JUST PLAIN OUT BREAK UP WITH HER IDGAF YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH SOME SHIT BUT I WANT GROVEL GODDD GROVEL
IM SORRY IT'S GOIN TO BE SOUND BITCHY BUT IN THAT CHAPTER THAT SHE JUST FORGIVE AND TRUST THEM BACK?!?! YEAH SHE DOES MAKE IT EASY SHE IS EASY JUST LIKE HOW EVERYONE IN SCHOOL DESCRIBED HER
to those that hate zack oh gurl I'mma give you more reasons to hate him,so I read the bonus epilogue right is after 7 year's and layla already have 2 little girl's,Josh and Luke biological daughter, and she have a runaway that day AND GUESS WHEN IT HAPPEN 5TH APRIL MOTHERFUCKER YEAH YOU HEARD ME AND OF COURSE OUR ZACH IS MOPPING AROUND layla herself even said that after 9 year's that he still like that AND SHE'S PREGNANT AND FIND OUT THAT DAY AND SHE FEEL SO FUCKIN GUILTY TO TELL HIM CAUSE OF EMMY BUT YEAH SHE DID TELL HIM AND HE'S HAPPY AND HE ASK IF THE DAMN BABY GONNA BE ANOTHER GURL OH MAN IM NOT EVEN SURPRISE IF HE END UP WANT TO NAME THE BABY AFTER EMMY but the other two kids were name after flowers lavender and rose
Thank you so much for this review! I too cannot stand the dead lover trope and would have been so upset to waste my time reading this to find out that was a plot point.
"Fantabulous review"! ...not that book would appeal to me but it showed up for some reason, the cover looked cutesy, so I read just for amusement persay. (At 560 pages was enough to say forget it regardless of most any book actually, 300 is plenty with my patience these years ;) Anyway, to see who she actually chose, I perused for spoilers out of curiousity...Your review was so entertaining++, people do get over someone eventually and be able to love another but as you wrote, Zack was obsessed it seemed. Second best/a "consolation" prize was what she was pretty much....anyway, that's my two cents worth! ha.
I think it was probably One of the best reviews I have ever read in my life. You made me laugh so hard. I couldn't believe I was enjoying a review more than the actual book. I would like to know what Was the series that you were talking about?
the book was so boring, thank god i ditched it. and now that I see that she ended up with Zach, it is even more of a reliefs. I always liked Josh more.
I fully agree. I HATE the dead lover trope, I don’t think it belongs in a romance book. As soon as I see that a male protagonist has a dead gf I feel dirty reading the rest of the book.
You did all the work of typing it out so I don’t have to!! I’m at 88% and strongly considering not finishing the last 65 pages because I cannot stop rolling my eyes. Layla could’ve been so likeable and then she ruined it by having zero spine. The whole book she’s this badass then she just accepts a half assed apology?? Nah, not for me.
I also hate the dead girlfriend trope with a passion. And what was the five star series you were reading?
Girl pleasaseeeee I need the rec to the 5 star book you read that put all others to shame I'm in a slump and I need a good recommendation
I agree with all of this but I’m honestly surprised you didn’t have more to say about Luke. What a bitch that guy was! Still hung up on his ex wife who is a total C U Next Tuesday. Cmon let’s not act like peoples true selves don’t come out in a marriage. As if he didn’t know she was a horrible human being. Then his whole cry baby bit of “wahhh my marriage didn’t work out boohoo!” Grow up Peter Pan. It’s been a decade. Then he let his ex talk all that shit about Layla and doesn’t even defend her. Then tells Layla he can’t be with someone “like her”!! Wtf!! I wanted her to dump both of their asses and ride off into the sunset with Josh. Fuck those other two. And you know what, fuck all of them for not immediately coming to her defense when shit started hitting the fan online. I remember looking at my progress at 50% and thinking holy shit I have another 50 to go?! I should’ve just stopped then.
I had read this review and decided not to read the book, then read it a month later because I didn't remember and I'm mad about it lol. I actually liked Zack for most of the book which made the let down of all his actions even worse. BOTH of his grovel scenes were only about Emily! Come on, use this to grow the character and not keep him in the same place with a surface level promise of Layla meaning more. It completely killed the end of the book for me. And Luke was the most boring age gap, taboo/ex-teacher, "latent dom" I've read in my life

YOUR REVIEW HAS ME IN TEARSSSSSSS. i’ve never read a dead lover trope before so i wasn’t nearly as bothered by it as you were but you are literally SO RIGHT ABOUT IT ALL. Luke, boring and too righteous. Zack, literally the biggest asshole ever. Joshua, my sweet lovely boy. and Layla definitely forgave them wayyyyyy too easily. but i always expect that in romances honestly. especially when there’s a third act breakup (my least favorite trope).
