Graham P Eloquent and honest review of a book that I'm intimidated by (in a very good way). Cheers to you.

Thank you Graham and Steve. My mother went into another state like this recently and the most heartbreaking thing is that she looks expectantly at you, wanting you to understand. I suppose in reality if everybody took to this at once, nobody would understand anybody :(

Graham P My sympathies go out to you, NG. My father was on the opposite end in a way. He turned inwards, perhaps some quiet shame of him getting to the point where the body/mind broke down with less hope of a rebound. Miss the man (Scorpio through & through)...he passed this summer, and I was lucky enough to be with him.

Ahhh, just enjoy life and those around you on this fleeting and beautiful journey. And buoyed by the comfort of many, many books :)

Yes! And I find that the comfort of them isn't even just in the reading. When I can't sleep at night, I go a room which has a sofa and lots of bookshelves, floor to ceiling. It's incredibly comforting in there even if it's just seeing the books in ghostly dim light. Can't understand how people do without books.

Thomas R Heyda That's an interesting comparison between the acid head speak and your mother's stream of consciousness. This book is one of my favourites for the way Aldiss manages to keep the clues clear enough that you can still follow the plot amid the madness.
