Many thanks for taking a few moments to read my review, David. This is surely one of my longer, more detailed reviews. Since I didn't see any other reviews going into detail, I thought I'd give Ian Watson the review his novel deserves. What an astonishing ride this one is. I plan to reader other Ian Watson novels.

Hey, Mark. Glad I was able to convey some of the excitement I felt about this outstanding novel. I look forward to a reread. I was particularly drawn to the anthropology (one of my prime interests - we named our oldest son Colin after Colin Turnbull) and also the language theory of Saussure - in a way, an extension of Berkley's To be is to be perceived.

H (trying to keep up with GR friends) Balikov Have you read anything else by Watson, Glenn? If so, was it as powerful as The Embedding?

Thanks for taking the time to read my review, H. I feel a deep connection with Ian Watson's fiction, although The Embedding is my first Watson novel. I plan to dig into a number of his other novels, beginning with Alien Embassy, Deathhunter, and Under Heaven's Gate - this last novel written with Michael Bishop, a professional anthropologist. My guess is I'll find his other novels contain great power.

Manny I read this when I was 15 and obviously didn't get it. Thank you for reminding me that a second visit is long overdue :)

There's an SF Masterworks edition - large, dark font that's very readable.
