That does sound like a remarkable tale, Glenn.

Many thanks for taking a few moments to read my review, David. This is surely one of my longer, more detailed reviews. Since I didn't see any other reviews going into detail, I thought I'd give Ian Watson the review his novel deserves. What an astonishing ride this one is. I plan to reader other Ian Watson novels.

Hey, Mark. Glad I was able to convey some of the excitement I felt about this outstanding novel. I look forward to a reread. I was particularly drawn to the anthropology (one of my prime interests - we named our oldest son Colin after Colin Turnbull) and also the language theory of Saussure - in a way, an extension of Berkley's To be is to be perceived.

Thanks for taking the time to read my review, H. I feel a deep connection with Ian Watson's fiction, although The Embedding is my first Watson novel. I plan to dig into a number of his other novels, beginning with Alien Embassy, Deathhunter, and Under Heaven's Gate - this last novel written with Michael Bishop, a professional anthropologist. My guess is I'll find his other novels contain great power.
I read this when I was 15 and obviously didn't get it. Thank you for reminding me that a second visit is long overdue :)
