Abercrombie's Age of Madness just wrapped strong, Kuang's Poppy War sold seriously well on political/military fantasy, and the readers for dense, politically heavy work have always been around. What's changed is the cozy/romantasy boom dominating visibility: different market, different horizons, both legitimate though :)
The serious readers didn't disappear, they just got louder neighbors. Adding Regnum Noctis to my list.
I honestly think the audience is still there, it’s just harder to see because romantasy and faster-paced fantasy dominate social media visibility right now. Readers who enjoy slower world building, political tension, and darker themes still exist, they’re just usually deeper into forums, Goodreads groups, and long-form recommendations instead of viral TikTok trends. There’s room for both styles honestly.

If you feel like the discription above is not you, try Regnum Noctis.
